Knowing why you’re leaving but not knowing why you’re going to your next destination is the fastest way to end up back where you started. The next career and life decision you make should be an informed, calculated choice that aligns with your vision.
A career move requires a plan, a strategy and a commitment to action for you to be successful. And when it comes to making plans, it is important to have a clear picture, not only of where you are trying to go but also of where you are coming from. Having me as a coach means having someone who will guide you to take intentional steps in your career. No more wondering why you are doing what you are doing and feeling like a puppet whose results are dependent on the decisions of those around you.
MODULE 1 – CLARITY
As part of the SMCC Career Coaching Program: Job Search Path, in Module 1 we get to know the client and gain clarity about the client’s professional and personal goals and expectations. This module is all about reflection – looking backward and looking forward. Simply put, this career-coaching module is about gaining self-awareness to Understand the AS-IS and DESIRED state.
This includes helping you to better understand your skills and competencies and explore possible career paths. Tools such as a career test may be used, and opinions sought from subject matter experts in the areas in which you wish to position yourself. Focus here is tasks & skills, not titles!!

Here’s your CLARITY Checklist:
✅ INTENTION SETTING
- Create a vision for your career – what do you want/need to achieve in the long/short term and why?
✅ SWOT ANALYSIS
- Understand your Strengths, Weaknesses, and the Opportunities or Threats of your unique profile
✅ COMPETENCE ASSESSMENT
- Perform a competence assessment and identify a suitable career path(s).
From this, the STRATEGY (Module 2) and the timeline for the desired change process are derived.
